Total revenue from last 3 years

Merry Xmas and Happy New Year!
And beside that, 3 years passed since I left office space. During that time I developed and/or released more than 30 games. Also few games on EyePhone - by my self and via others. Still I have only one portal and one blog but we`re working at the new one casual-portal.

Here is some Numbers:
In total I was able to earn - $145,531. The first year was - $40,468, the second - $28,329, the third - $76,734. In average per month - $4042, or $6380 if to count just last year.

Where: Licenses - money from selling exclusive/primary licenses, Ads - money from advertisements, Others - selling url-locks, non-exclusive, sources, Portal - money from ads on portal (there are other sources of income there, but they are all small and all less than $100), Micro - money from micro-payments.
Portal share went up double. Micro share - x10, but I think it`s a ceiling.

I think I should highlight some things that helped me to get more money this year:

Follow up:

I worked more =)
I spend less time doing small things.
I started giving up on not-worth things more often.
Some payment still on the way - around 10k$.
I spend more time resting without PC - more travels, more outdoors.

The most $ game - EF:Conquest which earned $12,000+.
The most complex game - Red Storm.

Total gameplays based on mochibot: RS games - 8,000,000, EF games was played 78,000,000 times, rest - 30,000,000 times, so in total - 116,000,000 gameplays. But just to be clear - I almost stop using mochibot - it works not 100%.

Everybody likes to know more about AppleStore - as for me all bad there. In total I spend around 11k$ - setting up account, development cost(most of the money ofc). And gross revenue is around 4k$ - so net revenue below zero. Promotion on iPhone really depends on game - nothing can help bad* game to earns money.(bad == low quality, not fun, many bugs, memory leaks).
If you looking for help to promote your game - start from Toucharcade.
If you looking for publisher - expect to give away 30%-80%, depend on contract and deal.

Other platforms - everything still in development, but I hope - in the 4th annual report I will tell about them.

There was a question about if I`m working alone or in team. I work as 'true-indie' - each project has own team. In every team I work on different position - as programmer or produces. Everybody can participate in gamedesign, but last word always come from Producer. Maximum team consist of 3 people, but I think better would be team of 2.

A little bit about FGL. After they start to charge 10%,even game was sold outside of FGL - I stop selling games there. I just buy small games, use First Impressions, or view someone else games.

Advertise systems. CPMStar still has better eCPM than Mochiads. CPMStar has worldwide ads-selling agents, while Mochi has only in US.

Competition - it`s cool. More new developers appeared and new portals became twice more. I love this fact - so many cool games to play =)

Own portal finally started making money. Few more self-sponsored games - and will be better than year ago. Due to my tradition - this year I also step on other big fail. This year it was - russian-internet-fail - 20% russian websites went down, 10% of them never come back. It taught me an expensive lesson - never use cheap hosting services or re-sellers. Don`t work with Russian companies that aiming only on Russian market(we have no quality controls what so ever).

Some difficulties: this year, as usual was hard to manage my time. Or to simplify - time-management-fakeup!. In some projects I act as producer, somewhere as programmer - at the end of the day I don`t feel my head.
Also I hit wall with using the 3rd lib - GreenSock. At some point it freezes flash-player along with browser so I decided never use it again. It`s not hard to write few methods for own tweens.

Hello Badim

First of all, I wish you and your family a Happy New Year.

You wrote : "I almost stop using mochibot - it works not 100%."

What do you use instead of mochibot ?

Thanks

Chris

Great post! I had a few questions though, as far as the Red Storm games went, what percentage of plays came from what counties(if you have this data available)?

Also, how many plays did the game receive prior the the iPhone port being completed and advertised within the flash version?

I think these two things combined might've been large factors in the fact that the iPhone port wasn't a big success.

Cheers

visit counter - just to cunt how much traffic game sent to my site.

>Christopher:

I have no such data. I can guess from my portal - since Red Storm on of sources of my traffic - most of playes from US/De/Canada.

no idea about second thing - iphone version was late for few months. but i will continue to advertise it in my next games - we will see how it will go.

Hi Badim,

one question:
Would you recommend to reject primary licenses where you are NOT allowed to have (preloader/in-game) ads?

Regards

its all about money - in my position - yes(when you can always release game on your own). but if you need quick cash - then why not?

Nice blog! Do you think that cpmstar performs better than mochi ads for bigger games? I found that cpmstar is pretty awful for smaller games with less plays. What do you guys think?

Great results. I think you have done the right thing by focusing on just one big site and blog. It is much better than splitting your resources between many niche blogs or sites. If you stay focused your revenues will be even higher. Good luck!
